Step-by-step guide
How to File Your Florida Annual Report, Step by Step
You can file the State of Florida annual report yourself on sunbiz.org in about 10 minutes. Here's every screen, in order, and what to type in each one.
Checked against the state's pages on November 3, 2026.
Before you start: have these ready
- Your document number. It's 6 or 12 digits, printed on your state notice. Lost it? Search your business by name on sunbiz.org.
- Your FEIN, the 9-digit federal tax ID, if your business has one. Never enter a Social Security number.
- Your business's street address, plus a mailing address if it's different.
- Your registered agent's name and Florida street address.
- The names, titles and street addresses of your officers, directors, managers or members.
- An email address for the confirmation.
- A credit or debit card. Paying by card posts your report right away.
Filing for 2027 opens January 1, 2027. File by May 1, 2027 to avoid the $400 late fee. See the 2027 deadline and fees.
The steps
Open the state's annual report page
Go to the annual report page on sunbiz.org and click the button to file this year's report. Make sure the address bar says dos.fl.gov or sunbiz.org.
Enter your document number
Your business's current details load from the state's records. Check the name at the top. It's your legal business name, and you can't change it on this form.
Add your FEIN if it's missing
Type your 9-digit federal tax ID if it isn't already there. If the form shows "Applied For," you have to enter the number to keep going. You can call the IRS at 1-800-829-4933 if you can't find it.
Check your addresses
The principal address is your business's street address. The mailing address can be a P.O. box. Everything you enter becomes public, so use a business address if you don't want your home listed.
Check your registered agent
Your registered agent accepts legal papers for the business. They need a physical street address in Florida, not a P.O. box. A person who works in the business can be the agent, but the business can't be its own agent. If you name a new agent, the new agent must type their name to sign and accept the job.
Review your officers, managers or members
Add, remove or edit people and their addresses. You need at least one. One person can hold more than one title. (Limited partnerships can only change their general partners' addresses here.)
Choose whether you want a certificate of status
It's optional. It proves your business is active, which banks and landlords sometimes ask for. It costs $5.00 for an LLC and $8.75 for a corporation, and it's emailed to you.
Enter your email and sign
Your confirmation goes to this email. To sign, type your name. Typing your name counts as a signature under Florida law, so only sign for a business you're allowed to sign for.
Pay and save your receipt
Pay by credit card, debit card or a prepaid Sunbiz E-File account. Card payments post right away. Your receipt comes from [email protected], and your statement will say "NIC DOS DIVISION OF CORP". Keep the receipt. You can also download a copy of the filed report from sunbiz.org for free.
What you can change on the annual report
You can change
- Officers, directors, managers and members (names and addresses)
- Your registered agent and their address
- Your principal and mailing addresses
- Your FEIN (add or fix it)
You can't change here
- Your business name. That needs a separate amendment form, mailed with a fee.
- A limited partnership's general partners (only their addresses). That needs a Certificate of Amendment.
Already filed and spotted a mistake? Corporations and LLCs can file an amended annual report: $61.25 for a corporation, $50.00 for an LLC.
Paying by check instead
You can choose "Pay by Check" at the end. The site prints a payment voucher. Mail the voucher with a check or money order made out to the Florida Department of State. To avoid the late fee, it has to be postmarked by May 1. Check payments are processed in the order they arrive, so your report won't show as filed right away.
Watch out for lookalike letters
Many Florida owners get official-looking letters asking for money for "annual records" or "compliance." The state's annual report is filed on sunbiz.org. If a letter asks you to pay somewhere else, read the fine print first.
Get a free reminder before May 1
We'll email you when 2027 filing opens and again before the late fee kicks in. That's it.
Common questions
How long does it take to file the Florida annual report?
Most owners finish in about 10 minutes online. Reports paid by credit or debit card post on sunbiz.org right away.
Do I have to file if nothing changed?
Yes. The annual report is required every year, even if nothing changed. It keeps your business active with the state.
Can someone else file it for me?
Yes, but you don't have to pay anyone. The state fee is the same whether you file yourself or a service files for you. Services add their own fee on top.
What if I don't know my document number?
It's on the notice the state sends you. You can also search your business by name on sunbiz.org to find it.
Is the Florida annual report a tax return?
No. It isn't a financial statement or a tax filing. It only confirms or updates your business's names and addresses on the state's records.
I paid but I don't see a confirmation. What now?
Check the email address you entered, including spam. The receipt comes from [email protected]. You can also search your business on sunbiz.org to see the filed report.
